Knitting in Dangerous Times:

a brief exploration

While it may be a common sight to see a knitter knitting on a park bench or grandmothers knitting in their armchairs in front of the television, historically knitters have not only knit in the gentle sunshine dappling down through the leaves or from the soft glow of the evening news. Knitters have knit through war, sent hidden messages with their knitting, supported their families and communities during financial precarity, and found outlets for political action in enviornments in which they would otherwise have been shut down and silenced.
